Frequently Asked Questions
Explore our FAQ section to find answers about CEUs and our partnership with Auburn University.
A continuing education unit (CEU) (or sometimes called continuing education credit (CEC)) is a measure used in continuing education programs to assist professionals in maintaining their license in their profession. CEUs relate to continuing education and while often sponsored by academic institutions, it is not the same as academic credits (used in pursuit of a degree).
Continuing education or professional development is required in many fields, including teachers, insurance professionals, interior designers/interior architects, lighting designers, architects, engineers, emergency management professionals, school administrators, educators, nurses, psychologists, social workers, and more.
One Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is ten (10) contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction. As an example, A 14-hour course is worth 1.4 CEUs.
CEUs are an institutional recognition for adults who participate in non-credit continuing education. Professional Development Units (PDUs) are specific to the Project Management Institute’s requirements to maintain their professional certificates (e.g., PMP, PMI-ACP). Similarly, Continuing Development Units (CDUs) are required by the International Institute for Business Analysis (IIBA) to maintain their professional certificates (e.g., CBAP, CCBA).
Auburn University/Engineering Online and Continuing Education partners with Educate 360 by reviewing non-credit courses and programs, verifying compliance with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) CEU policies, and issuing CEU certificate(s).
Watermark Learning and its affiliated brands through Educate 360, including Project Management Academy, offer CEU credits for its non-credit courses through Auburn University to support students who are seeking professional development and need continuing education units to maintain their professional licenses or in some cases, receive funding to pursue their training.
Approximately one month after completing your course(s), you will receive your CEU certificate(s) and Certificate Program Certificates (if applicable) in the mail using the address you provided during your course registration.
